EAWOP’s President will propose two special keynotes at the end of the EAWOP 2019 Congress. One on policy impact will be given by Prof. Steve Kozlowski* and the other about scientific impact will be presented by Prof. Jason Shaw**. Here you have a preview of them. 


Science, Translation, and Policy Impact

Work and organizational psychology is an empirical science and evidence-based practice that has been in existence for over a century. Work and organizational psychology is well-established in the developed world and has made rapid advances in the developing world over the last couple of decades. The field has developed a substantial empirical foundation and a wide range of well-developed applications that are routinely used to enhance organizational effectiveness. Yet, with few exceptions, work and organizational psychology has had relatively limited direct impact on government policies relevant to workforce well-being and effectiveness. My presentation will discuss the many challenges that have to be surmounted to change this state of affairs, ongoing efforts for work and organizational psychology to have a more tangible policy impact, and things that each of us can do to more directly shape workforce policies.


Enhancing Scientific Impact: Publishing Psychology Research in Top Management Journals

Most Work and Organizational Psychologists (WOPs) are trained to publish their research in the leading disciplinary journals (e.g., JAP, PPsych, JOOP, EJWOP). However, increasingly, WOPs are also seeking to publish their work in broader management and business journals (AMJ, Org Science, JOM). These journals often have a broader audience and allow WOPs to communicate their findings and perspectives beyond their own discipline to other scholars in the organizational sciences, thus potentially increasing the scientific impact of Work and Organizational Psychology. However, publishing in management journals often requires a different emphasis in terms of theory, methods and focus. Professor Jason Shaw, Editor of Academy of Management Journal, will share his experiences with publishing psychology research in AMJ and will provide tips for WOPs seeking to do so.

Brief Bios:
* Steve W. J. Kozlowski, Ph.D. is a Professor of Organizational Psychology at Michigan State University and an authority on multilevel theory; team leadership and team effectiveness; and learning, training, and adaptation. With respect to policy, he chaired the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) Science Advocacy Task Force to develop a strategy to advance impact on workforce-related federal science and practice policy (2010-2012). As SIOP President (incoming, president, outgoing; 2014-2017), he
advanced institutional capacity for advocacy. As the current Research and Science Officer (2018-2020), he has continued to advance SIOP infrastructure and capacity to advocate for federal action to improve organizational and workforce science and practice. He was recently appointed to the American Psychological Association, Advocacy Coordinating Committee (2019-2022) and serves as the Editor for the new SIOP/Oxford Organizational Science, Translation, and Practice Series.


** Professor Jason D. Shaw is Shaw Foundation Chair in Business in Nanyang Business School at Nanyang Technological University. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Academy of Management Journal (2016-2019). Jason Shaw’s research interests include the psychology of pay, organisational turnover, and team effectiveness. His research has appeared or been accepted for publication in the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Personnel Psychology, and Journal of Management, among other scientific outlets. He has served or is serving on the editorial boards of Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, and Journal of Management, among others. He has been invited for visiting scholar positions and other speaking engagements in China, Finland, Austria, Denmark, Norway, England, Germany, Hong Kong, Spain, Israel, Macau, Ghana, Ethiopia, Czech Republic, Ireland, Belgium, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, Canada, Belgium, Thailand, and the USA. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas in 1997.
