Work environment
The Nijmegen School of Management (NSM) is an academic centre of research and higher learning, focusing on institutional and managerial issues within complex organizations in both the public and private domain. There are seven focus areas within the NSM: Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, Economics, Social and Political Sciences of the Environment, Human Geography, and Spatial Planning. The NSM strives for a multi-disciplinary approach whenever possible. Altogether, the NSM employs 220 full-time staff, of whom 75% are academics. The NSM has about 3,000 students.

The Department of Business Administration is one of the four departments within the NSM and consists of five chairs: Marketing, Strategy, Organizational Design and Development, Strategic Human Resources Management and Research Methods. What sets the Nijmegen curriculum in Business Administration apart is that it takes a Responsible Organization perspective on Business Administration. This focus reflects a broader view concerning the developments within the discipline of management itself. That is, value creation in firms and organizations is seen as multiple, which enables the combination of various, different stakeholder perspectives. Consequently, in the curriculum the standard course listing is combined with classes that put Business Administration within an ethical, historical, philosophical, institutional, and methodological perspective. As such, it reflects the research of the Department of Business Administration, which is also characterized by a multidisciplinary approach.
