Assistant Professor Psychology

Job description
The psychology department at the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences has drawn up an investment programme and intends to appoint an assistant professor, who recently finished their PhD, with an excellent record in research and teaching. We aim for candidates who are likely to acquire substantial external funding in the next few years.
Within the psychology department, we have 8 sub-departments (clinical psychology, clinical neuropsychology, developmental psychology, social and environmental psychology, organizational psychology, cognitive psychology and psychophysiology, statistics and methods of psychology, and theory and history of psychology), which all participate in research programmes, the curriculum of the bachelor and various master programmes. Positions are open in all fields of psychology.
The 8 sub-departments share responsibility for teaching in both the English and Dutch Bachelor’s of Science psychology degree programmes. Moreover, we have 11 Master of Science degree programmes. The psychology department also participates in the research master programme of the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences. The successful candidate teaches and coordinates courses in Psychology, supervises bachelor, master and PhD students, and plays an active role in implementing new developments in the Psychology department’s teaching programme.
All sub-departments are part of the Heymans Institute of psychological research (HI). The HI provides a strong research environment with up to date research facilities. In addition to having strong research groups within the 8 sub-departments of the psychology department we also encourage collaborations between sub-departments to do research on specific themes.

Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:
• PhD in Psychology
• a competitive research track record commensurate with the level of appointment
• the motivation and potential to acquire externally financed projects such as a Veni, ERC starting grant, etc.
• teaching experience
• good collaboration and communication skills
• excellent academic writing and presentation skills
• the possession or the willingness to acquire a BKO (i.e. University Teaching Qualification).

Conditions of employment
The University of Groningen offers a salary depending on qualifications and work experience. For this position, the appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level. The salary is ranging from a minimum of € 3,427 to a maximum of € 4,691 gross per month (salary scale 11 of the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities) for a full time position, plus an 8% holiday allowance, 8.3% end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees. Favourable tax agreements may apply to non-Dutch applicants.
You will be appointed for a period of a maximum of five years, with an evaluation moment after one year. Depending on the ability to attract funding for research projects, an extension of the appointment might be possible after these five years. The position is available immediately. The candidates for this position are expected to play an active role in both the teaching (55%) as well as the research programme (45%).
